Artidor takes over production of Zone 1 sensor

The smallest things can have the biggest consequences. That's the case for Bosch Rexroth. Due to changing regulations, they could no longer produce a special sensor for use in hydraulic cylinders, which is where we came in. We took over the product and now supply the sensors exclusively to Bosch Rexroth so that they can continue serving their offshore customers with no hassle at all.

Zone 1 sensor for hydraulic offshore cylindersIn 2008, Bosch Rexroth in Boxtel developed an explosion-proof sensor for use in their direct riser tensioner cylinders. The enormous hydraulic cylinders are used on drilling vessels to keep the drill pipe, the riser, at the right pressure. The environment of the cylinders and sensor is classified as Zone 1.

'Direct riser tensioner cylinders' are also used under extreme conditions and require maintenance over the course of time. The sensors occasionally need to be replaced as well. For an ongoing maintenance job, new sensors had to be produced. That's where the problem arose: Bosch Rexroth could no longer maintain a production environment that meets the strict quality requirements for the production of explosion-protected equipment. This meant that Bosch Rexroth could no longer produce the sensors. This had major consequences for ongoing projects; the enormous cylinders require the small sensors in order to function.

Artidor and Bosch Rexroth have enjoyed a working partnership since 2007. In Boxtel, they are aware that we have been producing explosion-proof equipment for use in Zone 1 for many years and that the protection methods used do not hold any secrets for us. So, when their cylinder experts started searching for a solution, they soon turned to us.

The chosen solution may be slightly unusual, but it is also practical and easy to implement: the existing EU Type Certificate in the name of Bosch Rexroth has been converted to Artidor, making us the formal manufacturer of this special sensor. The new certificate has been added to our notified quality system and production can now begin. Not only do we provide the required quality controls, but the sensors are also functionally tested and adjusted. Bosch Rexroth can now continue serving their customers and have one thing less to worry about.
